Family News

February 2006

Bzzzzzzzz. The gate buzzer interrupts your day and calls you to see who is at the front of the property. A voice calls out, "Boss man, Do you have any work?" The visitor is a man looking for manual labor jobs for a small amount of money. He claims to be living under a tree over the hill and is hungry. It is wise to be little cautious though because some robbers try to gain entrance to your property and overpower you with this approach. However, I have thought ahead and have saved some work outside of our perimeter fence for this very purpose. "Would you like to remove this tree stump?" I ask. "Yes, boss," the man replies. As he labors in the African sun I prepare some bread, other leftover food from our refrigerator, and a 2 Liter bottle of water. As I give it to John, as he says his name is, I receive a request for shoes. "What size do you wear?" I asked. I learn that it really doesn't matter because his size 8 feet now occupy some well-worn size 12 shoes. I give the man my size 10 1/2 athletic shoes. One hour later the man is done (well done with as much as he wants to do). So I pay him the expected wage and spend s ome time sharing the gospel with him. John tells me he would like to come back and finish the job. However, I have not seen him since.
